Week One: Reality of Human Behavior Prey by Michael Crichton *What does the character find upsetting? Jack: His wife Julia disappears and leaves home frequently and doesn't tell him where she's going. He also gets frustrated when she snaps at him and is mean. Julia: She believes her husband Jack turned the kids against her. She also gets frustrated when Jack tries to "interfere". *What makes the character happy? Jack: His kids and his wife (when she's being normal) make him happy. Julia: Her work and her kids make her happy. She's really dedicated and likes her job. *What motivates the characters to act? Jack: His wife acting really shady and getting into an accident motivates him to act. Also the perfect opportunity motivates him to act since he can accept a job that will most likely help him solve the mystery about his wife. Julia: Work and developing the new project motivates her to act. *What does the character want? Jack: His family to go back to normal. Julia: For her work to be finished. *What is the character willing to do to get what he/she wants? Jack: His wife told him not to get involved but he did anyway. Julia: She lies to her husband and doesn't really see him or the kids because she's always working to try to finish the project. *How does the character respond to adversity? Jack: He asked his sister, friends, and lawyer for help and what they think is going on. Julia: She fakes it and acts like everything's okay, flips out on her husband, or just leaves the house. *How does the character solve problems? Jack: He thought his problem through and asked for help from multiple people. He also doesn't give up hope. Julia: Not really sure, Julia seems to create more problems than solve them. Opinion on Jack: I believe he is a good guy and really in love with his wife. Even though there are many red flags he doesn't give up hope on his wife or kids. Even though he is a good guy, I believe he should question his wife more because he kind of just lets her do what she wants when the stuff she is doing is really shady and weird. He contributes to the mystery because he has a wife and baby who are acting weird. He also took a job at the place that's making his wife act weird because he's trying to solve the mystery. Opinion on Julia: I don't like her. I don't think this is the regular Julia though. Her and her husband have been married a long time and she just started acting up all the sudden after the project at work, so I think there's something going on at work making her act different, shady, mean, and unlikable. She contributes to the mystery because she disappears and works at the lab where the science experiment is going to go bad. |
